Bruno Vollmer

Hey I’m Bruno, I’m a software engineer with a passion for trying to teach computers to understand our visual world. Currently I’m building biped, an AI Copilot for blind and visually impaired people that leverages advanced computer vision to guide them.

  • I really like to build things with Python but I also don’t mind working with JavaScript (React and React Native). Currently I’m trying to learn Rust.
  • This website acts as a collection of my talks and maybe some blog posts in the future.
  • More Information about me can be found here:

Talk: PyCon Berlin

This was my second time speaking at a major programming conference. Really enjoyed the process and the conference as a whole. In this talk I give an introduction into Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and how to build a little example on Linux with Python.

Podcast: Founder Flow

At the end of 2022 I had the chance to talk in the “Founder Flow” podcast about biped and our journey from a first prototype to a device that is slowly deployed to different markets. It was a great experience and I really enjoyed coming back to the Digital Church in Aachen, where I made my first startup experiences. The podcast episode was also filmed. You can find the video here:...

Talk: PyCon Italia

I’ve always wanted to talk at a programming conference. With my talk at PyCon Italia 2022 I’ve realized that wish. I do have to thank my Co-Founder Mäel though who pushed me to apply for a talk. In this talk, which was very similar to the one I gave at AMLD 2022, I introduce what techniques we use to make Python fast enough for our use case.

Talk: AMLD

The Applied Machine Learning Days is a global platform for AI & Machine Learning, focused specifically on the real-life applications of these technologies. It’s held once a year at EPFL. I had the chance to give a talk about how we use Python at biped and how we tweak it to make it run fast enough in an environment where certain minimum speed requirements exist.

Podcast: Einfach Tech

I really like podcasts as a medium so from the end of 2020 to the middle of 2021 I experimented with the medium. The result was a tech podcast in german. The idea was to explain tech topics from a variety of areas in a simple and short manner. Each episode was around 20-30 mins. Sometimes a guest joined us to give some more insights into a certain area. Finally, we recorded 13 episodes with a total of around 5k listens (January 2023)....
